Thirteen Kenya Defence Forces soldiers were injured after their vehicle overturned at Magina area in Lari, along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway. The soldiers were rushed to AIC Kijabe Hospital.

One of the soldiers was critically injured in the Monday accident and was taken to theatre for surgery. The hospital's medical director Dr Steere Mardi said the other soldiers were in stable condition and received treatment for tissue injuries.

“At around 5pm, 13 KDF soldiers including the driver were received at the hospital. One was immediately taken for surgery while the others received minor treatment and are in a stable condition,” said Dr Mardi. “All the soldiers will be transferred to the Defence Forces Memorial hospital in Nairobi since they need to be observed and receive further medical care, especially the one who has just undergone surgery,” said Dr Mardi.

Area police boss Alfred Makoma said they are investigating the cause of the accident.

“The vehicle is extensively damaged and we will tow it to the Uplands police station. The soldiers have been rushed for treatment at the AIC Kijabe Hospital,” said OCPD Makoma.

He said the road where the accident occured is narrow and the driver may have experienced difficulties leading to the accident. The KDF soldiers were headed to Nairobi.

The accident comes two days after another KDF soldier Saturday died while six others were injured when their vehicle lost control at Mkunumbi area in Mpeketoni, Lamu County.
